For tonight's topic, we shook our Trivia Tickle File and out dropped "Stonehenge, USA".
Our research shows that there are (or have been) nearly 3 dozen U.S. replicas of the famous Wiltshire (England) prehistoric monument: Stonehenge.
Like other man-made objects, some of these may last thousands of years, perhaps some for decades, and others, like a Bouncy Castle after a child's party, seem to disappear overnight.
Many copycats of this iconic English landmark have used unusual "building blocks" like boats, refrigerators, trucks, styrofoam, gravestones and even port-a-pottys.
Have you ever seen the "original" Stonehenge or any of its numerous knock-offs?
Accordingly, we offer for your approval, 3 questions about some of the more famous and curious Stonehenge copycats found throughout the U.S.?
Please choose your answers from any of the 3 (reuseable) answers of "A", "B", or "C" (if applicable!) for each of the following question
Ok, get out your archeo-GPS gear, spill some coffee on your road atlas, and plug in your favorite road trip playlist!

Question #1: In 1918, railroad tycoon Sam Hill started erecting a full-scale Stonehenge replica just 3 miles from his Maryhill (WA) mansion along the Columbia River. What was it built for?
        A. It was used as an astronomical calendar and predicted the June 8, 1918 total solar eclipse, or
        B. It was used by Hill to impress and entertain foreign royality (like Belgium's King Albert), financiers, and powerful politicians, or
        C. It was the country's very first WWI memorial.

"Near the town site of Maryhill, Washington, three miles east of Maryhill Museum of Art, stands a full-scale replica built by museum founder Sam Hill.
Erected as the nation’s first WWI memorial and dedicated in 1918 to the servicemen of Klickitat County, Washington, who died in the service of their country during the Great War, Hill’s Stonehenge Memorial is a monument to heroism and peace."

Question #2: Since 2004 in Odessa, TX, a nearly full size Stonehenge serves as a campus landmark at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin (UTPB). How long did it take to build it?
        A. 6 weeks, or
        B. 6 months, or
        C. 6 years.

The officially titled "University of Texas of the Permian Basin Stonehenge" was built in the summer of 2004 by stoneworkers Connie and Brenda Edwards.
The University thought that a nearly-full-size Stonehenge would make a good teaching tool....
Although the original Stonehenge took 2,000 years to complete, this one went up in only six weeks.

        B. Carhenge will be in the direct path of a Total Solar Eclipse for 2 minutes and 28 seconds, or
        C. Carhenge will become a fully commissioned Nebraskan State Park.
Alliance, Nebraska is located on the centerline of the eclipse. Carhenge® is the place to be.
The start of the Eclipse will begin at 10:27am Mountain Daylight Time.
Full eclipse will start at 11:49 am MDT and continue for 2 minutes and 28 seconds at Carhenge, 2 minutes and 30 seconds downtown Alliance and at the Airport.
