On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress unanimously adopted the Declaration of Independence, announcing the colonies' separation from Great Britain. (from the Library of Congress -- Today in History -- July 4).
Congress adopts the Declaration of Independence in the morning of a bright, sunny, but cool Philadelphia day. John Dunlap prints the Declaration of Independence.
These prints are now called "Dunlap Broadsides".
(from Declaring Independence: Drafting the Documents).
Accordingly, our 3 TRUE/FALSE Questions tonight are about the Fourth of July and the Declaration of Independence.
Please give us your best answers for each of the following 3 TRUE or FALSE questions, by using the (reuseable) answers of "A"=TRUE or "B"=FALSE.
So how much do you know about the July 4th holiday and the Declaration of Independence?
       ++ Tonight's Topic: "Happy Birthday, USA!" ++
Question #1: Of the 24 known copies of the Declaration of Independence (i.e., the original Dunlap Broadsheets), the US Library of Congress has only a single copy -- George Washington's personal copy  -- True or False?
        A. True, or
        B. False.

Congress adopts the Declaration of Independence in the morning of a bright, sunny, but cool Philadelphia day. John Dunlap prints the Declaration of Independence.
These prints are now called "Dunlap Broadsides." Twenty-four copies are known to exist, two of which are in the Library of Congress. One of these was Washington's personal copy.
(from the Declaring Independence: Drafting the Documents).
Question #2: As the President of the 2nd Continental Congress, John Hancock, whose large signature appears on the Declaration of Independence, was the very first signer (out of 56 signees) of the document -- True or False?
        A. True, or
        B. False
.
John Hancock, President of the Second Continental Congress, was the first signer. This merchant by trade did so in an entirely blank space making it the largest and most famous signature — hence the term John Hancock, which is still used today as a synonym for signature. (from the Fun Facts About July 4).
Question #3: The fourth Day of July became a federal holiday (along with New Year's Day, Christmas, and Thanksgiving) by an Act of Congress in June 1870 -- True or False?
        A. True, or
        B. False
.
"The act of June 28, 1870, which was apparently prompted by a memorial drafted by local “bankers and business men,” provided that New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Christmas Day, and “any day appointed or recommended by the President of the United States as a day of public fasting or thanksgiving [were] to be holidays ..."
(from the Federal Holidays: Evolution and Application - US Senate).
