Once again, the ever-delightful Shelley [KF7TBA] is camping out at her Dad's house tonight and she sends a BIG Radio Wave to everybody.
Fifty-one years ago on this date -- March 18, 1965 -- the Russian Cosmonaut Alexei Leonov was the first human to step out into space and perform a "space walk".
This first space walk mission, named Voskhod 2 (Восхо́д 2), consisted of Alexei Leonov as the navigator/spacewalker and Pavel Belyayev as the commander/pilot.
So how much do you know about this historic space milestone?
Please choose your answers from any of the 3 (reuseable) answers of "A", "B", or "C" (if applicable!) for each of the following question
Ok, secure your space helmentcheck for leaks, and hook up your tether -- and watch that first step -- it's a doooozzzy!

Question #1: While tethered to the spacecraft's airlock with a 5m-long (~16ft) “umbilical cord”, how long did Leonov's space walk last?
        A. 12 minutes, or
        B. 18 minutes, or
        C. 25-1/2 minutes.
Cosmonaut Alexey Leonov left his spacecraft Voskhod 2 for 12 minutes on March 18, 1965, making the first spacewalk in history.
During his 12 minute walk, Leonov had no means to control his motion other than pulling on his 50.7-foot tether.
Leonov’s spacesuit ballooned from its internal pressure against the vacuum of space, stiffening so much that he could not activate the shutter on his chest-mounted camera....
Even worse, Leonov's spacesuit had inflated in the vacuum of space to the point where he could not re-enter the airlock.
He opened a valve to allow some of the suit's pressure to bleed off, and was barely able to get back inside the capsule.

Question #2: The first space walk mission was named Voskhod 2 (Восхо́д 2). What does the Russian word "Voskhod" mean?
        A. "Sunrise", "Dawn", "Ascent", or
        B. "Triumph", or
        C. "Friendship".
The Voskhod program (Russian: Восхо́д, IPA: [vɐsˈxot], Ascent or Dawn) was the second Soviet human spaceflight project.
Two manned missions were flown using the Voskhod spacecraft and rocket, one in 1964 and one in 1965.

The Vostok and Voskhod missions of 1961-1965 continued the series of Soviet firsts in space.
In six missions from 1961 through 1963, a Vostok ("East") spacecraft carried a cosmonaut into Earth orbit in successively longer flights.
The Vostok spacecraft then was modified to hold two or three cosmonauts and renamed Voskhod ("Sunrise").
Three cosmonauts orbited aboard Voskhod 1 for a day in October 1964, five months before the first U.S. two-man Gemini mission.
In March 1965, Voskhod 2 achieved another space spectacular, the first spacewalk, when cosmonaut Aleksei Leonov ventured outside his orbiting spacecraft.

Question #3: Alexei Leonov, incidentally, lobbied for his friend Pavel Belyayev to sit in the commander’s seat. -- True or False?
        A. True, or
        B. False
The mission, named Voskhod (Sunrise) 2, required a spacewalker (also the navigator) and a commander to pilot the ship.
Leonov lobbied hard for his friend Pavel Belyayev to sit in the commander’s seat.
He got his way, despite doctors’ concerns about a leg injury Belyayev had sustained during parachute training.
Belyayev was 10 years older than Leonov and had seen action as a fighter pilot in the final days of World War II, flying sorties against Japan from Russia’s far east.
He was courageous and capable.
