1st New Year Toast on Christmas Island (aka Kiritimati, Kiribati)
Well, just in case you have been counting (5 time your fingers or toes plus 3 fingers), you are right that tonight is our 53rd weekly's Friday Trivia Net for 2016.
So, tonight's net will occur during a 2016 Bonus Time session -- with a very special treat of our very last Question of 2016 being -- by unpopular request -- a little tricky!
Accordingly, please choose your answers from any of the 3 (reuseable) answers of "A", "B", or "C" (if applicable!) for each question

So, from the ever-delightful Shelley [KF7TBA] and myself [K7LWA],
we wish you all the very best in the fast-approaching New Year -- 2017 (or for you old-schoolers,
MMXVII)!

Question #1: Something has happened 26 times since 1972. The next time this happens, it will be on December 31, 2016 at 23:59:60 UTC. What is it?

        A. The worldwide hamburger giant, McDonald's, change the number of "Burgers Served" on all its corporate-owned "Golden Arches" signs, or
        B. Cousin Marilyn [KC8TJV]'s Ohio Buckeyes are dreaming of de-Tigering the Fiesta Bowl in a few hours, or#####
        C. A leap second is added to UTC and to clocks worldwide.

Every now and then a leap second is added to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) in order to synchronize clocks worldwide with the Earth's ever slowing rotation.
Atomic clocks are slightly too accurate.
The reason we have to add a second now and then is that Earth's rotation around its own axis is gradually slowing down, although very slowly.
How Often Are Leap Seconds Added?
Before the first leap second was added in 1972, UTC was 10 seconds behind Atomic Time.
So far, a total of 26 leap seconds have been added.
This means that the Earth has slowed down an additional 26 seconds compared to atomic time since then.
However, this does NOT mean that the days are 26 seconds longer nowadays.
The only difference is that the days a leap second was added had 86,401 seconds instead of the usual 86,400 seconds.
The next leap second will be added on December 31, 2016 at 23:59:60 UTC.
The difference between UTC and International Atomic Time (TAI) will then increase from the current 36 seconds to 37 seconds.

Question #2According to our experts*, there are about 39 time zones, so New Years Eve will be celebrated at 39 different times. True or false?
        A. True, or
        B. False.

With 39 different local times in use, it takes 26 hours for the New Year to encompass all time zones. There are about 39 time zones, so New Years Eve is celebrated at 39 different times.

Question #3: Baker Island (BIT) is the last spot on earth to toast the New Year. How many hours have passed since popping the first bottle of bubbly at Christmas Island -- or Kiritimati, Kiribati (LINT)?
        A. 24, or
        B. 26, or
        C. 28.

26 hours after the first bottle of bubbly pops, Baker Island toasts the New Year.
Kiritimati, Kiribati is into the second day of the year before Baker Island leaves 2016.
