It's that time again -- 3 more True-or-False ("TorF") questions.
What do YOU do to celebrate the July 4th Independence Day Holiday celebrated -- in/with the US?
Well, Shelley celebrates the July 4th Holiday by watching Independence Day (the film) -- which was released on July 3, 1996.
And she watches it over and over and over and over (argh!) -- well, you get it -- Independence Day is one of her favorite movies.
By contrast, in the UK, the movie was released a month later on August 9th, a rainy Saturday.
Living outside of London then, LW remembers seeing the film on the next weekend -- on one of those rare British Summer weekends -- that was sunny all day and warm (82°F), and all the outdoor pub tables were full of punters (customers).
So, accordingly, how much do you know about... Independence Day (the film)?
For tonight's True-or-False ("TorF") questions, please give us your best answers for each of the following 3 TRUE or FALSE questions, by using the (reuseable) answers of "A"=TRUE or "B"=FALSE.
Good Luck and remember, YOU are always a WINNER with us, regardless of your actual answers!
OK, climb aboard, buckle up, and let's kick some unfriendly UFOs!

Question #1: In the US, the film, Independence Day, was the #1 Box Office hit for the year 1996? -- True or False?
        A. True, or
        B. False.
The sci-fi action disaster film Independence Day (1996) debuted in the summer on the weekend of its namesake July 4th, earning over $50 million on its opening weekend.
It was the first feature-length movie to make $100 million in its first week (at $104.3 million), breaking the record set earlier by Jurassic Park (1993).
It was the top earning domestic film of the year at $306 million, followed by Twister (1996) in second place with $241.7 million and the film adaptation Mission: Impossible (1996) from the popular TV show in third place with $181 million.
It inaugurated Will Smith's streak of major July hits - Men in Black (1997), Bad Boys II (2003), I, Robot (2004), and Hancock (2008).

Question #2: Likewise, in the UK (where LW first viewed Independence Day) it too was the #1 Box Office hit for the year 1996? -- True or False?
        A. True, or
        B. False.
*OK, here's another of those LW Surprises:
    I originally thought Independence Day was NOT the #1 Box Office hit in the UK for the year 1996 -- thus, ANSWERS = [ A - B - A ];
however, Shelley pointed out that I was using just several weekly UK Box Office revenues.
Looking into this answer more closely, I found no answer that was obviously or directly stated.
In fact, the best I could discover was not a single direct or absolute statement -- but instead, just an inference -- about the movie's Box Office status:
Independence Day ranked at #20 out of the 20 movies during the 1996 - 2006 British Film Institute Annual Review
[Top films in the UK 1996 – 2005 PDF LINK].
Rank Title Country
 of origin
UK box office
gross (£m)

Year of
 release
20 Independence Day  USA  37.13 20th Century Fox 1996
Additionally, it was the ONLY film listed with the RELEASE DATE of 1996.
Thus, I inferred that Independence Day being the only 1996 movie under discussion, that the ANSWER = A (True).
However, since there is NO Direct support, the ANSWER may also be B (False).
What I thought was a "no-brainer" -- as usual -- has become another *LW Brain-Pain!*
So, Judges say: CORRECT ANSWER IS.... A  or  B!
Question #3: Although the film was scheduled for release on July 3, 1996, many theaters began showing it on the evening of July 2, 1996 -- the same day the story of the film begins -- True or False?
        A. True, or
        B. False.
The film was scheduled for release on July 3, 1996, but due to its high level of anticipation, many cinemas began showing it on the evening of July 2, 1996, the same day the story of the film begins.
The film's combined domestic and international box office gross is $816,969,268, which, at the time, was the second-highest worldwide gross of all time.
It is currently the 42nd highest-grossing film of all time and was at the forefront of the large-scale disaster film and science fiction resurgences of the mid-to-late-1990s.
It won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, and was also nominated for Best Sound Mixing.
