During a recent toothpaste "resupply mission", tonight's questions came
to LW's attention (deficit).
Since both his mother and sister worked as Dental Hygenists, one might wonder if his life around toothpaste was genetically predisposed.
How about you?
Do you brush after every meal, or after you awaken, or before you go to bed, or even before giving us your answers tonight?
Accordingly, we offer for your approval, 3 questions about toothpaste (according to the American Dental Association [ADA] trade group).
Please choose your answers from any of the 3 (reuseable) answers of "A", "B", or "C" (if applicable!) for each of the following question.
Good Luck and remember, YOU are always a WINNER with us, regardless of your actual answers!
Ok, take a final rinse, then... just put down the toothbrush -- slowly, and gradually walk your fresh breath over to your radio,...
Question #1: Clinical studies have shown that chewing sugarless gum for 20 minutes following meals can help prevent tooth decay. True or False?
A. True, or
B. False.

Question #1: Clinical studies have shown that chewing sugarless gum for 20 minutes following meals can help prevent tooth decay. True or False?
A. True, or
B. False.
The physical act of chewing increases the flow of saliva in your mouth.
If you chew after eating, the increased salivary flow can help neutralize and wash away the acids that are produced when food is broken down by the bacteria in plaque on your teeth.
Over time, acid can break down tooth enamel, creating the conditions for decay.
Increased saliva flow also carries with it more calcium and phosphate to help strengthen tooth enamel.

Question
#2: Typically, toothpaste consists of many
ingredients. One ingredient type is known as "humectants".
What do humectants do?
A. Thicken or bind other ingredients to stabilize the toothpaste formula, or
B. Add an agreeable flavor to the toothpaste, or

C. Prevent water loss in the toothpaste.
Toothpaste ingredients typically consist of many ingredients.
Mild abrasives to remove debris and residual surface stains. Examples include calcium carbonate, dehydrated silica gels, hydrated aluminum oxides, magnesium carbonate, phosphate salts and silicates.
Fluoride to strengthen tooth enamel and remineralize tooth decay. All ADA-Accepted toothpastes contain fluoride.
Humectants to prevent water loss in the toothpaste. Examples include glycerol, propylene, glycol and sorbitol.
Flavoring agents, such as saccharin and other sweeteners to provide taste. Flavoring agents do not promote tooth decay.
(No ADA-Accepted toothpaste contains sugar or any other ingredient that would promote tooth decay.)
Thickening agents or binders to stabilize the toothpaste formula. They include mineral colloids, natural gums, seaweed colloids or synthetic cellulose.
Detergents to create foaming action. They include sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium N-Lauroyl sarcosinate.
