    Two days ago, on March 25, the ABEL Prize -- an international award for outstanding scientific work in the field of mathematics -- announced its winners for 2015.    This award announcement named two American mathematicians: 86 years-old John F. Nash, Jr. and  Louis Nirenberg (aged 90).

    The ABEL Prize is named after the early 19th century mathematician, Niels Henrik Abel (1802-1829).
    When he died, at the age of only 26, Abel left a large body of work, including the first proof of the general binomial theorem (which had been stated by Newton and Euler).

    (And in case you're wondering, LW's Family Tree does not include either Niels Henrick Abel or the German composer, Carl Friedrich Abel -- dun-dun-dah-d'oh!)   
    So, for tonight, our three questions concern this international mathematics award -- worth about 750,000 Euro (US$ 816,787.50).
